Interfaith Engagement – Edmund Rice College Visit

Al-Faisal College had the privilege of hosting approximately 300 students from Edmund Rice College, Wollongong, who are currently undertaking Studies of Religion as part of their academic program .on Wednesday 25th March. Edmund Rice College is an independent Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, grounded in Gospel values and the mission of the Christian Brothers.

As part of this interfaith initiative, students met with members of the College Executive Team and were provided with a comprehensive tour of the Omar Mosque in Wollongong. The visit formed a valuable opportunity to promote mutual understanding, respect, and dialogue between faith traditions.

Students engaged in a presentation delivered by Sheikh Ahmed Kasem, who outlined the main tenets of the Islamic faith, fostering greater awareness and clarity around Islamic beliefs and practices. This was complemented by an address from the Associate Executive Principal, Mr Peter Rompies who provided insight into what a typical day at Al-Faisal College looks like, feels like, and sounds like, highlighting the College’s strong focus on faith, academic excellence, wellbeing and community.

This visit represents a meaningful example of interfaith collaboration, supporting students to develop respect, empathy, and a deeper appreciation of diverse religious traditions within the Australian context.
